Treatment:

At your first visit to our office, Dr. Farley will preform an orthodontic evaluation at no charge and discuss about your orthodontic needs. If the patient is ready for treatment, the next appointment would be scheduled to do a diagnostic work-up, or records. After this appointment has been completed, you or your child will be appointed for the orthodontic conference and at that appointment the braces or appliance would be placed. These appointments range from thirty minutes to an hour and one-half. Due to the length of these appointments, we ask that the patient come at an earlier time during the day.

After the braces or appliance is placed, the patient returns for regular adjustments every six to eight weeks. Regular appointments are fifteen minutes and can usually be scheduled after school hours. These adjustments usually consist of wire changes, and replacing the ties that come in a variety of colors to make the braces more fun to wear.

We offer several payment options for your convenience. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us. We will be happy to help you.

- Dr. Farley offers a discount of 5% for payment in full if paid before or at the time the braces or appliances are placed.

- 30% of the total charge is the down payment due at the placement of the braces. The remaining balance would be paid in monthly installments. No interest will be charged if paid on the date set up.

- Our office also offers a payment option with Chase Health Advance at chasehealthadvance.com, which will allow you to begin treatment with no down payment, low monthly payments and a no or low fixed interest rate. You simply click on the link below to get pre-approved.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The technical term for these problems is "malocclusion", which means "bad bite". The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application and control of corrective appliances (braces) to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance. After college, an orthodontist must complete four years of dental school and then complete an additional two to three years of advanced specialist training in orthodontics.

Early treatment may also shorten treatment time and make treatment easier and less expensive.  Most importantly, the resutls my be better.

Problems to Watch for in Seven Year Olds

Why should I consider braces?

Poorly arranged teeth can wear down prematurely and can trap food particles that cause tooth decay and gum disease. They can also lead to poor chewing which can further damage healthy teeth. Straight teeth will improve your smile, which is one of the most important features of your face.

At what age is a patient too old for orthodontics?

You are never too old to improve the health and attractiveness of your smile. More and more adults are seeking treatment - in fact, more than 30% of Dr. Farley's patients are adults. Adults can now choose to wear small, clear braces that are barely noticeable, or even removable, "invisible braces" (Invisalign™).

What is the psychological impact of early treatment?

Appearance has been related to popularity, social behaviors, personality style and self esteem. Treatment may reduce appearance-consciousness and the emotional scarring that can occur during critical development years.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, what are some other benefits of orthodontic treatment?

Additional benefits may include better function, improved cleaning ability, more favorable wear patterns on the teeth and greater longevity of the natural teeth.

Is orthodontic care expensive?

Orthodontic treatment may actually eliminate the need for other costly medical and dental treatment. Furthermore, the physical and psychological benefits usually last a lifetime, making orthodontics an excellent investment in your health and quality of life! We offer several budget options so that finances don't stand between our patients and their desired treatment. We work with most insurance companies, and accept MasterCard and Visa.

Retainers

Why are retainers necessary?

Retainers are used to help hold teeth in position after they are straightened. When your braces are removed, you’ll notice that some of your teeth will be loose.  This is normal.  Your retainer will support your teeth until they tighten as the bone around them restructures.  Plan to wear your retainer for several years.  The sooner you stop wearing them, the greater the chance your teeth will move back to their original position.

What kinds of retainers are there?

We use four different kinds of retainers.  Not everybody will get the same type. Often the type of retainer depends on where your teeth were when they started and where they are when the braces come off or at the time the retainer is made.

The four types are listed below:
A.                Hawley retainers
B.                Clear retainers
C.                Lingual bonded retainers
D.                Spring retainer

How long do I have to wear my retainer?

We actually consider retention a part of treatment.  Generally, we follow a patient in active retention for a two-year period after the removal of the braces.  Any further retention is strictly up to the patient.  Keep in mind that your body changes as you age.  Your hair changes, your skin changes, and even you teeth may change.  This is the reason that retention is an ongoing process. After active retention, the patient may judge his/her own need for retention.  The best process is to try the retainer in on a regular basis.  As long as it doesn’t feel tight, retainer wear time may be reduced.  If the retainer begins to feel tight, this is an indication that the teeth may be moving and retainer wear time should be increased.  Patients with bonded lingual retainers may keep them indefinitely as long as the vicinity of the retainer is kept clean and the patient is able to brush and floss the area properly to maintain oral health.
